April 4th: Trade & Investment between Belize and Mexico

Three day talks were held in Belize this week to work out trade agreements between the two countries.  Connections are being made between The Ministry of Economic Development, Commerce, Industry and Consumer Protection in Mexico and Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE).

April 4th: Asian Businesses Protest

Asian businesses were closed during a two-day protest earlier this week.  Their protests followed the murder of two female Chinese grocers.  Follow-up stories include arrests that were made.

April 5th: Belize Government to Toughen up on Crime

A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives proposing constitutional changes for Preventive Detention.  This would allow for the detention of suspects without charge.  A proposal has also been made to allow for trial by judge only in select cases.  Prime Minister Dean Barrow comments on both controversial changes.

This year’s theme focuses on nurturing creativity and protecting the industry.  Copyright is also a main theme this year and the Belize Copyright Licensing Agency was introduced.
