New ADO Bus Route from Belize to Cancun

There is some very exciting news if you are going to or from Belize and planning to fly in or out of the Cancun, Mexico airport:

MEXICAN BUS COMPANY ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE LEAVING BELIZE

There is now a direct bus ride from Belize City to Merida and Cancun, and as of last Friday, the rides are daily. The service is being provided by the bus company called ADO Group from Mexico. Today representatives of the bus company held a press conference detailing the routes and the regulations of the new transport service.

One bus is on schedule to leave from the bus terminal in Belize City to Merida at eight every night, arriving at its final destination at six fifteen the following morning. The second bus to Cancun leaves the bus terminal in Belize City at eight fifteen each night arriving at Cancun at seven the following morning. The bus runs will not be affecting the services provided by local transport providers.

People can board the busses from Belize City, Orange Walk and Corozal only if their final destinations are Merida or Cancun in Mexico. Anyone wishing to travel within Belize will not be able to take the bus. The ADO bus company has designated five buses and a total of ten experienced drivers to make the runs. The buses are first class grade, air conditioned with forty-four seats and a toilet.

The company signed a ninety day contract with the transport department last week and made the first run last Friday. So far runs have transported between sixteen to twenty passengers and the company expects the numbers to go up eventually. One way tickets from Belize to Cancun are for seventy-nine dollars; to Playa Del Carmen, sixty three dollars; Merida, seventy nine dollars; and Tulum, fifty-five dollars. The prices are in Belize dollars. Tickets can be bought directly from one of the company’s personnel at the bus terminal in Belize City.

Hello – so I have some info about the ADO bus from Cancun to Corozal. Some friends recently took it from Cancun leaving from the bus terminal there at 10:15pm and it arrived in Corozal at 3:30am (Belize time). It stopped in Playa del Carmen, Tulum and then Corozal. Apparently this is the only bus from Cancun to Belize. If anyone else has further information please post it in the comments. Thanks!

    HI,
We are old “Gray Hairs” and are wondering if there is a day time bus from Cancun airport to Belize City? You could connect me with a bus schedule and other helpful information? Thank you.

I do not have any other departure times for the ADO bus to Belize. The information I was given was that the only time the ADO bus leaves to Belize from Cancun is 10:15 (Mexico time). If anyone else has different information please include it here in the comment section.

That is very helpful information concerning times of departure from Cancun to Corozal, which obviously is the first of the three stops in Belize. During the year there is a time difference between Belize and Cancun of one to two hours, Mexico being one or two hours earlier. I have always found the travel time on ADO from the Cancun bus station to Chetumal ranging from 5:45 minutes to 6:30 minutes, so this accomodates those arriving in Cancun on afternoon flights. Hopefuly there is a bus leaving by mid afternoon from Cancun also.

Another question about the Cancun-Belize City ADO bus,
curious to know if anyone knows what time it picks up @ the Cancun Airport? (I have heard it does a stop there in addition to the Bus Stations)
Also, what time it arrives into Belize City?
    Thanks!
NOTE- To Lynn Davis there is day time buses leaving Cancun every couple hours, but they only travel as far as Chetumal then you will need to take a transfer either via bus/taxi to cross into Belize.

First off this has been (by far) the most recently updated site regarding bus travel from Cancun to Belize, and back. However, I have been on the ADO website checking for fares and routes to get from Cancun Airport to Belize, or even Chetamul (water taxi picks up there in route to some of the cayes) But am not coming up with anything, does anyone know how to get ahold of the ado bus company to make this reservation? BTW this will be my first trip to Mexico / Belize, and I know next to no spanish, and am traveling solo…(throw your self to the wolves right?) any info would help so much…Thanks ya’ll

Travelers to Belize via Cancun may wish to check our blog for pickup at Corozal – travel time to Progresso Heights accommodation would be about 40 minutes and no problem with pickup during the night – just requires pre-arrangement

Not really. In that part of MX many people speak some English. BTW unless you are going to Cancun, there is a shuttle bus to Playa del Carmen that will save you a couple of hrs.

BEWARE!!!! My family is from Belize; I have a US & Belize passport! I traveled on ADO in December 2011 to Belize. At the Mexican border into Belize, the little man in the window attempted to charge me money to cross the border (approximately $10 USD). I refused to pay and was allowed into Belize. I recently came back to Belize through Mexico (June 12, 2012) and the little man in the window at the Mexican border charged the entire bus $26.00 USD each. No matter what I said, they still took our money. THIS IS A CON!!!!!! But, at the early hour of the morning, what can you do! WHAT WE CAN DO is begin blogging, twittering, face-booking and telling news stations that this CON is occurring and effecting not only US citizens but ALL those traveling into Belize via Mexico! I am in the process of contacting DATELINE investigative reporting. There is nothing that can be done locally, we need to SPREAD the WORD!!!!! Please pass this message on so we can stop this harassment by the Mexicans!!! It is NOT legal. If anything, request a receipt!

is very sad commentary, what you reported to the Mexican authorities? I’m Mexican (at the north, very north, on the border with California) and planned to travel with my family to Belize, but it seems it should not do so for your comment. what you say abouth this?
