Made it to Belize!

Progresso Shores swimAs is typical, plans did change on my journey back to Belize and we stayed in Isla Mujeres for almost a week.  The last night there we spent in a hotel on the island but the first part of the trip was all on Rishi’s plastic bottle island.  Scott and Rishi are working on getting a fundraising campaign together to grow and launch the island so it was a lot of business meetings and work while we were there.  That work along with it being finals week in my classes (I’m enrolled in online classes), the stress of moving in general and lugging around 6 pieces of stuffed luggage made it a fairly stressful week.

We had to be back to Belize on Saturday night though because there was a party being thrown for my return to Belize that night.  So we got up Saturday morning, caught a few rays at the beach, had breakfast and then caught the noon ferry out of Isla Mujeres and back to Cancun.  From Cancun we took the ADO bus to Chetumal and a taxi from the Chetumal bus depot to the Belize border where my dad was picking us up.  We figured out that we had transported that luggage around on 11 separate occasions by the time it was all said and done.  I was so happy to be done with that and through all the borders, which we had no trouble with at all.

The party was a blast, another friend had set up live music for the event and they were very good.  Melody Man and Yoga Man – mostly covers but some original stuff as well.  I was on a high from actually getting there which was great because otherwise Scott and I were both exhausted.  The band played from 8pm to midnight and I got to mingle with all my friends whom I haven’t seen for 6 months.  It was a really fun time.  By midnight my lack of sleep and travel were catching up with me so I crashed after the band packed up, but the bar stayed open for another hour or so.

It was a great weekend to get back to Corozal because the next day Corozal’s first annual regatta was taking place.  There were people all over the water front; bands were set up, vendors everywhere, boats in the water (not many but a lot for Corozal), people were swimming and the beer tent was set up.  That morning I had to finish up my math final but after the final was complete we headed toward the festivities.  It was a fun day and nice to see so many people out in support of the event.

Then, at long last, after a week of travel we made it to our place in Progresso Shores and got to unpack our bags.  One of our friends was nice enough to give us a ride from Corozal to our place.  It’s about a 45 minute drive over unpaved roads and one hand-cranked ferry.  It was such a relief to just fall on to the bed after the bags were unpacked and breathe a little.

Glad you made it back to Belize! I can only imagine how exhausting that travel must have been, but you look no worse for the wear. Hope you are wearing sunscreen in that last shot! 😉

I think I am wearing sunscreen 🙂 but that is the mud that’s making me look even more white than usual. Thanks for the comment!
