Moving to Belize Blog Series: Introduction

TurneffeI made the decision to move to Belize on a whim.  In a matter of three months I was approached by my Mom to move to Belize with her and then flew to Corozal, Belize without ever having stepped foot on Belizean soil.  I wouldn’t necessarily recommend my method to others – I was just so ready for a change that I went for it without giving the whole idea much thought.  Luckily for me it was an incredibly positive experience and one that I would never give up.  A move to any foreign country should not be taken lightly – there are so many factors to take into account that could make your experience go either way.  The idea of moving to an exotic location and getting away from the go-go-go mentality sounds wonderful to many of us but the reality may be a bit of a shock.

This week I want to write a series of posts relating to making the decision to move to Belize.  As I was doing any research I could on Belize before I moved there it was difficult for me to find firsthand accounts of the experiences people were having there.  I sifted through a lot of ads that would have been helpful if I was going to vacation there but weren’t so helpful in providing the information I was looking for.  Hopefully this series can shed a little more light on what you should expect when you start thinking about a move to this beautiful country.  I will post one part of the series each day over the next week – comments about your experiences are very much appreciated and helpful.

Part I: Research – Is Belize Right for me?
Part II: Visiting Belize – Experiencing the Country
Part III: Making the Move
Part IV: Getting Involved with your Community
Part V: Settling in – Interviews with Expats
