In 2010 near the entrance of San Juan village one of the largest cocaine busts was made. The men apprehended are still in detention and further inquiry has led to the arrest of two additional men.
May 3rd: Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage’s expert assess oil industry
The Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage is involved in a nationwide campaign for a referendum on the question of oil drilling and exploration. The assistance of two foreign technical experts has been solicited.

Close to 24,000 people attended the Belize Agricultural and Trade show this year.
May 4th: Despite cane shortage there is no shortage of sugar
This year’s cane season has been tumultuous. A full shutdown came in mid-February when a pair of turbines was rendered inoperable. Now the cane farmers are concerned that due to the climate there will be an insufficient supply of cane. Alfredo Ortega, Chairman of the Committee of Management of the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association, says that the shortage should not affect sugar supply.

Drastic and controversial anti-crime measures are going to the House of Representatives next week. PM Dean Barrow elaborated on the proposed measures.
May 6th: Belize Customs catches container filled with chemical precursor used to make Crystal Meth
Customs intercepted a container filled with the chemical precursor used to make Crystal Meth. The container came from China and was bound for Mexico via Orange Walk.
May 6th: Boilers breakdown at Belize Sugar Industry causing factory shutdown
For the second time during sugar cane season the Tower Hill factory has completely shut down.
