I have two weeks before leaving for a week in Costa Rica and then 10 days after I get back from Costa Rica to prepare for my move to Belize. I’ve already sifted through the few possessions I still have in the States so I don’t really need to do that. Basically I will just be storing a few containers and packing my bags. I have one and a half blank pages in my passport left which will be just enough to get to Costa Rica, through Mexico and in to Belize. Then I’ll have to make a trip to the embassy in Belmopan to get some more pages put in.
My boyfriend is flying to Portland for a week prior to my departure to Belize to help me pack and will provide some extra luggage space. Then we will both fly to Cancun, Mexico. In my experience this has proven to be the cheapest route in or out of Belize to take. So we will fly to Cancun and this time I am excited about a short visit to a spiral island made out of plastic bottles at Isla Mujeres. Mr. “Rishi” Sowa has been working on this project for years now. I found the information one day perusing BoingBoing.net and forwarded it onto my bf who since visited Rishi for a few days and was extremely impressed. You can read the BoingBoing.com post here. So we will spend a couple nights with him which I am very curious about. Then it will be on to Belize.
I will post about Costa Rica and about Rishi’s spiral Island as those trips come and will keep the blog up to date about my preparations for moving to Belize. Thanks everyone for reading and I hope some of the information here will be helpful for you! As always, please leave a comment or send me an email if you have specific questions or topic suggestions.
Hey, I am a Belizean living in Costa Rica and I was just wondering where in Costa Rica will you be staying??? It would be very nice if I had the chance to meet you since I am one of your greatest followers. Hope to hear from you soon!

My wife and I have enjoyed your blog for awhile. We plan travel to Belize in May and hope to spend time in Corazal with an eye on retirement. How will you travel from Cancun to corazal? Is that a better way to go vs Belize city?
Don, thank you for reading my blog and I’m glad you’ve both enjoyed it. Typically we take the ADO bus from the Cancun airport to Chetumal, Mexico (about 20 minutes from the Belize border). Then from the Chetumal ADO station you can hire a taxi to take you to the Belize border and another taxi from the Belize border to wherever you are staying in Corozal. The airline ticket savings is typically worth the extra hassle unless you are really pressed for time. If you are traveling to another spot in Belize first (rather than Corozal) then Belize City may be a better option for you. Good luck! Contact me if you have any other questions about getting to Belize and maybe I can help.
Was wondering if there will b a direct flight from Cancun 2 San Pedro anytime soon. I wanna save money flying from Alberta, Canada. Going thru Houston is double the price than thru Cancun. But i can’t find a fast way 2 San Pedro. Right now both ways take me 2 days 2 get 2 San Pedro. Please keep me posted since i travel in May
I haven’t heard of a direct flight from Cancun – as far as I know you still have to get a charter flight from Belize somewhere or a ferry boat from Chetumal. Hope that helps.
